Municipal Charities of Stratford-upon-Avon
A charity with a long tradition, based in Stratford upon Avon,
providing supported housing and financial assistance for local people
A number of local charities were founded by benevolent Stratfordians (Richard Smith, Thomas Durant, Hubert Gibbs, Annie Justins, George Pardoe and John & Thomas Combe) whose objectives still apply today, i.e. the relief of persons who are in need, hardship or distress. The income of these charities provided assistance to local townsfolk in the form of food, clothing, fuel and other essential household items and now continue to help local residents under a grant-giving organisation known as the Stratford-upon-Avon Relief in Need Charity by making monetary grants to individuals or providing or paying for goods/services or facilities on their behalf.

2017 GRANT APPLICATIONS
As is the case with many other grant-making organisations, the funds available for distribution are limited. With an increasing number of applications being received, the Trustees have decided to award this year’s grant for a specific need only.
Applications are subject to income and savings assessment and will be considered for a variety of reasons including help towards paying for essential items of furniture and household equipment (e.g. bed, support chair, cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine), mobility aids (not available via social services or occupational therapy services) and unexpected household bills. Documentary evidence in support of financial information (income and savings) will be requested.
Grants are not normally approved for the repayment of debts, rent or council tax arrears, nor are rental deposits provided. Grants are not generally considered unless all statutory benefit entitlements are being claimed, e.g. universal credit, housing benefit, council tax relief, pension credits, winter fuel allowance, etc.
Eligible applicants must be of limited financial means and live within the town boundary of
When applying for financial assistance in connection with a specific health condition, applicants are asked to include, where possible, a letter from one of the following (GP, Occupational Therapist, Nurse for Older People, Warwickshire County Council Adult Health & Community Services, etc.) in support of the application.
